  • Jazzmin Pitts

    Jazzmin Pitts Founder/Director

    Jazzmin Pitts, the founder of Healed Black Women (HBW), created the organization in 2021 to provide the supportive space she needed during her own healing journey. With a background in behavioral health and currently pursuing a master's in clinical mental health at the Chicago School of Professional Psychology, Jazzmin combines personal experience and academic knowledge to drive HBW's mission of collective healing. She serves on the executive board of New Leaders Council (NLC) since 2022, working with organizations that advocate for change and leadership.

    As a mother of two, Jazzmin is dedicated to aiding black women, in their healing journey, believing that empowering women leads to stronger, healthier families and communities. Her passion extends to mental health awareness, social-emotional learning, and holistic well-being. Jazzmin is committed to creating supportive spaces and providing the tools and resources needed for personal growth, advocating for systemic change, and fostering resilience.

  • Mekeia McGuire Community Chair

    Mekeia McGuire brings over a decade of rich experience in behavioral management and educational strategies as the Community Chair for Healed Black Women (HBW). With a dynamic background in instructional design and educational leadership, Mekeia excels in creating engaging training programs and developing resources that enhance staff education and professional growth. Her expertise includes developing comprehensive training solutions that cater to a wide range of organizational needs, optimizing both trainee engagement and retention through various delivery media including classroom settings and virtual platforms.

    Currently pursuing a Ph.D. in Educational Leadership, Mekeia is committed to leveraging her instructional design knowledge to facilitate impactful learning experiences. She has a proven track record in organizing educational events and building strong relationships across departments, which makes her an invaluable asset to HBW. Her ability to align educational programs with strategic organizational goals helps to promote targeted learning initiatives and improve overall performance within the community, furthering HBW's mission to empower and support Black women and their families.

  • Lorin Burke Programs Chair

    Lorin Burke is a licensed Professional Counselor who earned her graduate degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from the University of Phoenix. With extensive experience in providing counseling support to children, adults, and families across various settings—including schools, residential facilities, homes, and non-profit organizations—Lorin specializes in Infant Mental Health services, focusing on the mental and emotional well-being of those she serves. She is well-versed in evidence-based modalities and brings a wealth of expertise to her practice.

    Lorin values the integrity of the therapeutic relationship and is committed to fostering social, behavioral, and emotional growth in her clients. Her dedication to the counseling profession is driven by a strong desire to make a positive impact on the community.

    A proud Detroiter and product of Detroit public schools, Lorin is an alumna of Eastern Michigan University and the University of Phoenix. She considers her role as a mother to be her most significant and challenging achievement. Lorin is particularly passionate about supporting women, especially caregivers of young children, who are navigating parental stress and adjustment.

  • India Pernell Recruitment Chair

    India Pernell holds a bachelor's degree in Technical Writing and wrote, edited, and published eight books. Though she's a published author, she also aspires to become a Mental Health Therapist and is currently a student in the master's degree program at Central Michigan University. She also earned a certification in Addictions Counseling. Her diverse background includes working as a college advising assistant, childcare provider, GMB Analyst, a volunteer at Saint Mary’s Nursing Home and the Boys and Girls Club. She has also traveled to Ghana for independent research.

    India has joined the Healed Black Women movement because she admires what it stands for, as her goal is also to become part of the solution, which is to uplift, motivate, and promote the unity of black women.
