  • Advisory Chair

    Mekeia McGuire brings over a decade of rich experience in behavioral management and educational strategies as the Community Chair for Healed Black Women (HBW). With a dynamic background in instructional design and educational leadership, Mekeia excels in creating engaging training programs and developing resources that enhance staff education and professional growth. Her expertise includes developing comprehensive training solutions that cater to a wide range of organizational needs, optimizing both trainee engagement and retention through various delivery media including classroom settings and virtual platforms.

    Currently pursuing a Ph.D. in Educational Leadership, Mekeia is committed to leveraging her instructional design knowledge to facilitate impactful learning experiences. She has a proven track record in organizing educational events and building strong relationships across departments, which makes her an invaluable asset to HBW. Her ability to align educational programs with strategic organizational goals helps to promote targeted learning initiatives and improve overall performance within the community, furthering HBW's mission to empower and support Black women and their families.

  • Operations Chair

    India Pernell is a multifaceted leader with a strong foundation in communication, counseling, and community service. She holds a bachelor’s degree in Technical Writing and has authored, edited, and published eight books—a testament to her gift for storytelling and her passion for amplifying meaningful narratives.

    Currently pursuing her master’s degree in Mental Health Therapy at Central Michigan University, India is also certified in Addictions Counseling. Her academic and professional journey reflects a deep commitment to mental wellness, personal growth, and advocacy.

    India’s diverse background spans several impactful roles—including college advising assistant, childcare provider, and GMB analyst. She has also served her community through volunteer work at Saint Mary’s Nursing Home and the Boys and Girls Club. Her global perspective was further expanded through her independent research trip to Ghana, where she explored the rich cultural roots that inform identity and healing.

    India joined Healed Black Women because she believes in its mission to uplift, unify, and empower Black women. Her goal is to be part of the solution by using her voice, skills, and presence to help create spaces of restoration, connection, and lasting change.

  • Wellness & Engagement Chair

    Acacia Greene brings a vibrant blend of business acumen, creative entrepreneurship, and heartfelt service to the Healed Black Women (HBW) Board. Currently pursuing her bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Acacia is also on the path to becoming certified in Project Management—demonstrating her dedication to leadership and growth. She is the proud founder of Krazi Kay Cosmetics, a bold and empowering beauty brand that reflects her dynamic spirit.

    With over 15 years of experience in customer service and a strong background in elder care, Acacia’s heart for people shines through in every space she enters. Her volunteer work in hospice hospitals speaks to her deep compassion and commitment to community care. A true lover of adventure, she finds joy and inspiration through traveling and exploring new cultures.

    Acacia joined the Healed Black Women movement to be a source of motivation and light for Black women navigating mental health challenges. She is passionate about creating safe, affirming spaces where women feel seen, heard, and supported on their healing journey.

  • Programs Chair

    Lorin Burke is a licensed Professional Counselor who earned her graduate degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from the University of Phoenix. With extensive experience in providing counseling support to children, adults, and families across various settings—including schools, residential facilities, homes, and non-profit organizations—Lorin specializes in Infant Mental Health services, focusing on the mental and emotional well-being of those she serves. She is well-versed in evidence-based modalities and brings a wealth of expertise to her practice.

    Lorin values the integrity of the therapeutic relationship and is committed to fostering social, behavioral, and emotional growth in her clients. Her dedication to the counseling profession is driven by a strong desire to make a positive impact on the community.

    A proud Detroiter and product of Detroit public schools, Lorin is an alumna of Eastern Michigan University and the University of Phoenix. She considers her role as a mother to be her most significant and challenging achievement. Lorin is particularly passionate about supporting women, especially caregivers of young children, who are navigating parental stress and adjustment
